  US Senator. From 1977 until 1995, he served the state of Wyoming in the US Senate. Raised in Wyoming, he graduated from Yale University in 1954 and held the occupation of cattle rancher. He served with the US Army from 1955 until 1957 and initiated his political career, serving as a member of the Wyoming House of Representatives from 1969 until 1972.
