Meyers, John Tortes 'Chief' b. July 29, 1880 d. July 25, 1971 Major League Baseball Player. He was a catcher for three teams in nine seasons in the majors. Meyers played with the New York Giants (1909 to 1915), Brooklyn Robins (1916 to 1917), and finished with the Boston Braves (1917). In 2,834 plate appearances he batted .291 with 363 runs batted in and 14 home runs.
