Dear, Paul Stanford 'Buddy' b. December 1, 1905 d. August 29, 1989 Major League Baseball Player. He played second base for the Washington Senators in 1927. He appeared in two games late in that season in a series against the Chicago White Sox. He had only one at bat and did not record a hit though he did score a run. Poff, Richard Harding b. October 19, 1923 d. June 28, 2011 US Congressman. A member of the Republican Party, he served Virginia's 6th District in the US House of Representatives from 1953 until 1972. Following service in Europe with the US Air Force during World War II (he was a bomber pilot and recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross), he attained his law degree from the University of Virginia. Roberts, Ruby Altizer b. April 22, 1907 d. May 24, 2004 Poet, Writer. She was named Poet Laureate of the Commonwealth of Virginia in 1950, the first and only woman ever to hold this honor.
