As a right handed pitcher, he made his debut with the Pittsburgh Pirates on April 17, 1929 and played for the Pirates five years, (1929-33). He ended his career with a record of 37 wins, 36 losses, 25 complete games, 8 shutouts, 11 saves, 154 strikeouts and a 3.81 earned run average.
