A successful businessman who was born and raised in Lake County, Ohio, he served as a representative for Ohio's forty-eighth district from 1883 to 1885. After graduating from Culver Military Academy in 1942, he served a four year term in the US Army. In 1949, he graduated from Georgetown University.
