Valente, Michael b. February 5, 1895 d. January 10, 1976 World War I Congressional Medal of Honor recipient. He immigrated to the United States at the age of 18, and three year later he joined the New York National Guard in Odgensburg, New York. His guard unit was activated, absorbed into the 27th Division and sent overseas. On September 29, 1918, during an assault of the Hindenburg line near Ronssoy, France, his unit was pinned down under heavy machine gun fire.
