Vancura, Vladislav b. June 23, 1891 d. June 1, 1942 Author and Filmaker. He was an important Czech avant-garde writer between World Wars I and II. His best-known novel, "Capricious Summer" (1926), is considered a classic of Czech Literature. A humorous tale of three old men whose spirits are revived by the arrival of a beautiful young woman in their village, it was successfully filmed in 1967 by director Jiri Menzel.
