Pennoyer, Sylvester b. July 6, 1831 d. May 30, 1902 Oregon Governor. Born in Groton, New York, he was educated at Harvard Law School where he graduated in 1854. By 1855 he was in Oregon establishing an academic career. In 1862 he entered the lumber business, and began writing editorials to the Oregon Herald. He became owner of that paper in 1869. Pickett, James Tilton b. December 31, 1857 d. August 28, 1889 Artist. He was the first son of the Confederate General George E. Pickett and his second wife, a girl who was "Northern Indian" from Alaska or British Columbia. Shortly after his birth his mother died. Summers, Owen b. May 23, 1850 d. February 2, 1911 United States Army Officer. Brevet Brigadier General US Volunteers and Colonel Second Oregon US Infantry a former member of the Oregon Legislature. Terwilliger, James b. October 3, 1809 d. September 1, 1892 Oregon Pioneer, Folk Figure. Born in New York, Terwilliger came west on the Oregon Trail and filed a property claim in 1846. Within the Portland townsite, he also bought lots from Francis Pettygrove, building a blacksmith shop near First and SW Yamhill Streets. Victor, Frances Auretta b. May 23, 1826 d. November 14, 1902 Frances Fuller was an American writer and historian, who wrote about the history of the western United States. Her early years were spent writing poetry and "dime novels", and taking care of family members. In 1864 Frances Fuller-Victor and her second husband settled in Oregon.
