Kemper, James Scott b. November 18, 1886 d. November 17, 1981 Insurance icon. Kemper also served as an Illinois delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1936, 1940, 1944, 1948, and 1952. He was the treasurer of the Republican National Committee from 1944 to 1946, and the U.S. Ambassador to Brazil, from 1953 to 1955. Kirk, Edward Needles b. February 29, 1828 d. May 28, 1863 Civil War Union Brigadier General. At the start of the Civil War, he was a successful attorney when he organized the 34th Illinois Infantry and served as Colonel in command. He saw duty in Kentucky, Tennessee and commanded a brigade at the Battle of Shiloh, where he was wounded on April 7, 1862. Mayer, Oscar b. March 29, 1859 d. March 11, 1955 Business Magnate. Oscar F. Mayer was born in the Bavaria section of Germany.
