Dickson, Joseph b. April, 1745 d. April 14, 1825 US Congressman. He was a cotton and tobacco planter in North Carolina and a member of the safety committee for Rowan County in 1775. At the outbreak of the Revolutionary War, he was commissioned Captain in the Colonial Army, was at the Battle of Kings Mountain and rose to the rank of Militia Brigadier General. After the war, he was clerk of Lincoln County Court in 1781, a member of the State Senate, 1788 to 1795 and was on the commission to establish the University of North Carolina.
