Bloomer, Amelia Jenks b. May 27, 1818 d. December 30, 1894 Women's rights activist, social reformer. Born in New York and raised in a Presbyterian home, Bloomer received minimal formal education. At the age of 22, she married Quaker lawyer Dexter Bloomer, who was co-owner of the Seneca Falls County Courier. Dodge, Ruth Ann [cenotaph] [memorial] b. May 23, 1833 d. September, 1916 Folk Figure. Ruth Dodge was the wife of General Grenville Dodge, the Chief Engineer and Surveyor of the Union Pacific Railroad in its infancy, and a major figure in Omaha/Council Bluffs history. She is best known for the memorial sculpture of her in Council Bluff's Fairview Cemetery. It was created in 1917 by Daniel Chester French, who was responsible for famous statue of Abraham Lincoln at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC. Kinsman, William Henry b. July 11, 1832 d. May 16, 1863 Civil War Union Army Officer. Born in Cornwallis, Nova Scotia, Canada, he came to Iowa in 1854 and worked as a lawyer in Council Bluffs until the Civil War broke out in April 1861. Enlisting in the Union Army, he was appointed as Major of the 23rd Iowa Volunteer Infantry, and by 1862 had been promoted to Colonel and commander of the regiment. Limerick, Thomas b. January 7, 1903 d. May 23, 1938 Criminal. Arrested in 1935 and sentenced to life in prison for bank robberies in several states and kidnapping, Limerick spent some time at Leavenworth Federal Penitentiary before being transferred to Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary.
