Bovee, Matthias Jacob b. July 24, 1793 d. September 12, 1872 US Congressman. He was born in Amsterdam, New York and attended the local school until his father died in 1807, after which he worked on his family's farm and taught school. He became a merchant in 1815 and was involved in local government, including service as Chairman of the Amsterdam Town Board and member of the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors.
