Official Citation: For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action above and beyond the call of duty. During an attack near Buna, New Guinea, on 24 December 1942, 1st Sgt. Burr saw an enemy grenade strike near his company commander.Instantly and with heroic self sacrifice he threw himself upon it, smothering the explosion with his body. 1st Sgt. Clark, Charles Benjamin b. August 24, 1844 d. September 10, 1891 US Congressman. He entered the Union Army on August 11, 1862, and was mustered in as a Private and Wagoner in Company I, 21st Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry. He eventually received promotions to Corporal, Sergeant and 1st Sergeant before being commissioned as a 1st Lieutenant on November 21, 1864.
