Adams, John Ottis b. July 8, 1851 d. January 28, 1927 Artist. One of the better-known figures of the "Indiana School" of painting, he studied at the Royal Academy in Munich, Germany, as well as in London, England, before returning to the United States. He specialized in Impressionist landscapes of his native Indiana, spending much of his time in the city of Muncie there. Along with artist T. C. Bloss, John McKnight b. June 21, 1839 d. May 26, 1905 Civil War Union Army Soldier. During the Civil War, was one of the finders of the famous 'Lee's Lost Dispatch' (also known as Special Order #191) prior to the Battle of Antietam while serving as a Sergeant in the 27th Indiana Volunteer Infantry. Later in life he served as the third President of Oregon Agricultural College (now Oregon State University). Carson, William J. b. August 30, 1840 d. December 13, 1913 Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Musician in the Union Army in Company E, 1st Battalion, 15th US Infantry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on September 19, 1863 at Chickamauga, Georgia. His citation reads "At a critical stage in the battle when the 14th Corps lines were wavering and in disorder, he on his own initiative bugled "to the colors" amid the 18th US Infantry who formed by him, and held the enemy.
