Salomon, Edward Selig b. December 25, 1836 d. July 18, 1913 Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General, Washington Governor. Born in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, he emigrated to Illinois in 1856 and was elected an Alderman of Chicago's 6th Ward in 1861. At the outbreak of the Civil War, he enlisted in the 24th Illinois Infantry and was commissioned an officer. In August 1862, he joined the 82nd Illinois Regiment and was appointed lieutenant Colonel.
