Elected to represent Maryland's 6th District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1971 until his death in 1978. Duryee, Jacob Eugene b. March 7, 1839 d. May 25, 1918 Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. The son of Union Brigadier General Abram Duryee, he served at the start of the Civil War as a Private in the 7th New York State Miliitia. He then was commissioned as a Captain in his fathers regiment, the 5th New York Volunteer Infantry (known as the "Duryee Zouaves"). Finally, he was transferred to the 2nd Maryland (Union) Volunteer Infantry, and led it as its Lieutenant Colonel.
