Moore, Charlie b. February 13, 1935 d. December 24, 1979 Charlie Moore was a Bluegrass legend. He grew up in Piedmont, South Carolina, a small Western town located below the Smokey Mountains. Stallcup, Virgil 'Red' b. January 3, 1922 d. May 2, 1989 Major League Baseball Player. The 6-foot-3 shortstop was originally signed by the Boston Red Sox in 1941, but his career was interrupted by military service in 1943-45. He was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds on November 1, 1946 after he hit .304 for Roanoke of the Piedmont League. He made his big-league debut with the Reds in 1947 and became their regular shortstop in 1948. He hit .228 during his rookie year but did have 30 doubles.
