Parsons, Sir Charles Algernon [memorial] b. June 13, 1854 d. February 11, 1931 Engineer, scientist and industrialist. Pioneer of turbine technology, founding the succesful company C. A. Parsons Ltd. based in Newcastle. Also invented the 'auxetophone' for amplifiynig double-basses, but this proved less popular and profitable. Died on his yacht in Jamaica.
