Hill, Daniel Harvey b. July 12, 1821 d. September 24, 1889 Civil War Confederate Lieutenant General. Active in education until the outbreak of the Civil War, he was a Colonel superintendent of the North Carolina Military Institute in 1861. Promoted Brigadier General in July, 1861, he commanded the Department of North Carolina, forces at Leesburg, Potomac District, Department of Northern Virginia and was promoted Major General in March, 1862.
