Bedford Sr., Gunning b. April 7, 1742 d. September 30, 1797 Served as Delaware's 12th Governor from January 19, 1796 to September 28, 1797. He became Delaware's 2nd Governor to die while still in that office. Served as a Lieutenant Colonel during the Revolutionary War, being wounded during the battle of White Plains, New York. Buck Sr., Clayton Douglass b. March 21, 1890 d. January 27, 1965 Clayton Douglass Buck first worked as an engineer in Delaware. He was a veteran of World War I. A Republican, he was elected governor of Delaware and served from 1929 - 1937. He was elected US Senator and served from 1942 - 1948. He was appointed Delaware State Tax Commissioner in 1953 and served until 1957 when he retired from public service. He died in 1965. The tombstone says that he was born and died at "Buena Vista." Gardner, John Lane b. August 1, 1793 d. February 19, 1869 Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. One of the oldest field officers at the outbreak of the Civil War, he had previously fought in the War of 1812, the Florida Seminole Wars and the Mexican War in his long career. When the Civil War started, he was serving as Lieutenant Colonel of the 1st United States Regular Artillery. Read, George b. September 18, 1733 d. September 21, 1798 Signer of the Declaration of Independence from Delaware, and representative of Delaware at the US Constitution Convention; he was one of only six men to sign both documents.
