Huntington, Gen. Jedediah b. August 4, 1743 d. September 25, 1818 Revolutionary War General. Graduated from Harvard College with a bachelor's degree in 1763, and received his master's degree from Yale College in 1770. Entered his father's shipping business and became very successful. His military career began upon his commission as an ensign in Connectcut's colonial militia, and he rose to the rank of colonel by the time of hostilites with Britain. Huntington, Samuel b. July 3, 1731 d. January 5, 1796 Signer of the Declaration of Independence from Connecticut. Some historians also consider him the first President of the United States. Born in Windham, Connecticut, he was apprenticed to a cooper (a barrel maker – a valuable colonial trade). Samuel studied law books in his spare time, and at age 22, he passed the test to practice law in Connecticut.
