Chhiri, Babu b. June 22, 1965 d. April 29, 2001 Sherpa. He had climbed Mt. Everest successfully 10 times setting a record for the fastest assent. While most climbers take 2-3 days to reach the 29,035-foot summit, Babu reached the top in 15 hours and 56 minutes. Scott Fischer was the man behind "Mountain Madness," an expeditionary mountain climbing organization founded in 1984, in Seattle, Washington. An experienced climber, Fischer had scaled Everest successfully four previous times. Henize, Dr. Karl G. b. October 16, 1926 d. October 5, 1993 Astronaut. Crewmember aboard the Space Shuttle Challenger. Their mission lasted from July 29, 1985, to August 6, 1985. Dr. Henize died of a heart attack while attempting to climb Mount Everest. He was buried on Changste Glacier on Mount Everest. Irvine, Andrew 'Sandy' b. April 8, 1902 d. June 8, 1924 Explorer and Mountain Climber. A student at Oxford University and a talented sportsman, Irvine was chosen by British explorer George Mallory to accompany him on the first ascent of Mount Everest. Irvine who was also an engineer was chosen for his vast knowledge of primitive oxygen tanks and his athletic abilities.
