Olbricht, Friedrich [cenotaph] b. October 4, 1888 d. July 21, 1944 German General. Olbricht was one of the lead conspirators in the German resistance against Hitler, and in the plot to kill Hitler on July 20, 1944. He was the main initiator and planner of the coup to take over the German government after Hitler's assassination. When it became known that Hitler had survived, Olbricht and the other leaders at Army Headquarters were arrested and shot just after midnight, in the courtyard of the headquarters on Bendlerstrasse in Berlin. Colonel von Stauffenberg worked in the German Army headquarters in Berlin. He was one of the main conspirators in an attempt to kill Hitler and take control of the government, to end World War II. Von Stauffenberg planted a bomb in a conference room at Hitler's headquarters on July 20, 1944.
