Bonaparte, Jerome b. November 15, 1784 d. June 24, 1860 French Royalty. Napoleon's youngest brother, he was installed as the King of Westphalia in 1807, and fought at the Battle of Waterloo. He was later made Governor of Les Invalides and President of the French Senate during the reign of his nephew Louis-Napoleon (Napoleon III). Bonaparte, Napoleon b. August 15, 1769 d. May 5, 1821 Despite an indifferent career at military school, created an enormous Empire for France stretching from Spain to Russia: crowned as Napoleon I in 1804. His monument is of porphyry from Finland: inside it the body of the Emperor is contained in a series of six coffins of tin, mahogany, lead (2), ebony, and a last one of oak. Giraud, Henri Honore b. January 18, 1879 d. March 11, 1949 French General. He served in World War I and in the campaign in Morocco of 1925 and 1926. A commander in World War II, Giraud was captured by the Germans in May of 1940, but made a dramatic escape in 1942 to unoccupied France and from there to Gibraltar. He took part in the Allied landing in North Africa, where he was given command of all French armed forces. Juin, Alphonse b. December 16, 1888 d. January 27, 1967 Marshall of France. At the outbreak of World War II, he was in command of a Division, of the 15th Motorized Divisions. His division was encircled at Lille during the Battle of France, 1940 and he was captured by the Germans. Released in 1941, he was assigned to command French forces in North Africa. After the invasion of Algeria and Morocco, in November 1942, he commanded French forces during the Italian Campaign and was one of the crucial factors in the breaking German lines in May, 1944. Kleber, Jean Baptiste [heart only] b. March 9, 1753 d. June 14, 1800 French Army General. Starting in the ranks of the French Revolutionary Army, he rose to be one of its most successful generals (Vendee, Heliopolis). In 1799 he was placed in command of the army in Egypt by the returning Napoleon. Shortly afterwards in Cairo he was assassinated in mysterious circumstances. Le Vizir d. 1829 Napoleon's Horse. A gift to Napoleon in 1808 from the Sultan of the ottoman Empire. It was transported to Napoleon's place of second exile, Saint Helena, in 1815, and Napoleon rode him there. After Napoleon's death in 1821, it was taken to England and later repatriated to France.
