Messmer, Otto b. August 16, 1892 d. October 28, 1983 Creator of Felix The Cat. In 1914 Otto Messmer started his career creating illustrations for magazines and newspapers, and in late 1915 he started doing animations and joined the Pat Sullivan Studios. Messmer created a cat, originally named Master Tom, for a animated cartoon named Feline Follies. For the third cartoon the cat's name was changed to Felix The Cat.
