Abbaticchio, Edward James 'Batty' b. April 15, 1877 d. January 6, 1957 Major League Baseball Player. Born in Latrobe, Pennslyvainia, he was an infielder most noted as the first Italian-American to play Major League baseball. On September 4, 1897, he made his debut for the Philadelphia Phillies and for nine seasons, he played with the Philadelphia Phillies (1897-98), Boston Beaneaters (1903-05), Pittsburgh Pirates (1907-10) and was a member of the 1909 Pittsburgh Pirates World Series Championship team.
