Schmitz, Johnny 'Bear Tracks' b. November 27, 1920 d. October 1, 2011 Major League Baseball Player. For thirteen seasons (1941 to 1942, 1946 to 1956), he was a left-handed pitcher with the Chicago Cubs, Brooklyn Dodgers, New York Yankees, Cincinnati Reds, Washington Senators, Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles. Nicknamed "Bear Tracks" because of the way he shuffled about on the pitching mound.
