Speer, Emory b. September 3, 1848 d. December 13, 1918 US Congresman. Served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War (1861-1865). Elected to represent Georgia's 9th District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1879 to 1883. Also served as United States District Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia from 1883 to 1885, Judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Georgia from 1885 until his death in 1918. Stallings, George 'Gentleman George' b. November 17, 1867 d. May 13, 1929 Major League Baseball Manager. He managed in thirteen seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies, Detroit Tigers, New York Yankees and Boston Braves. Stribling, William Lawrence 'Young' b. December 26, 1904 d. October 3, 1933 Boxer from Macon, Ga. He is second in all-time knockouts with 126, passed only by Archie Moore. He fought and defeated six champions, but whenever he had a title bout, he always had something strange happen. He first fought for the light-heavyweight title in 1924, when he was 17 and still in high school. He died as a result of a motorcycle wreck when he was just 28.
