Russell, William Hepburn b. January 31, 1812 d. September 10, 1872 Western Figure. Born in Burlington, Vermont, he was made manager in 1830, of the Western Missouri Steamboats in Lexington, conducting various trades on the Santa Fe trail, with the Army at Fort Leavenworth and Kansas Indian Reserves. In the 1850s, with partners Alexander Majors and William Waddell, Russell founded a freight company used for selling rifles, stores and agricultural implements seized from Free-State immigrants.
