  Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All the East. He was ordained a priest in Lebanon where he subsequently also founded the Orthodox Youth Movement. In 1961 he was appointed Bishop of the Diocese of Palmira and Patriarchal Vicar, and, in 1970, Metropolitan of Latakia. He was appointed the 166th Patriarch of Antioch on July 2, 1979, and his enthronement took place on July 8, 1979. The Antioch Church is one of the 15 Local Orthodox Churches in the world.
