Coleman, Burl b. May 20, 1896 d. June 28, 1950 Burl "Jaybird" Coleman, an outstanding blues harmonica, was born in Gainesville, Alabama. He learned to play the harmonica as a young boy, and he honed his skills as a musician while serving in the U.S. Army during World War I. After leaving the Army, he joined the Birmingham Jug Band and travelled with the "Rabbit Foot Minstrels" show.
