Bliemel, Emmeran b. September 29, 1831 d. August 31, 1864 Confederate Chaplain, O.S.B. Father Bliemel, a native of Germany, was the first Catholic chaplain to be killed in action in an American war. He was killed while serving as chaplain of the 10th Tennessee Infantry and 4th Kentucky Infantry CSA, during the battle of Jonesboro, Georgia.
