Reid, William b. December 21, 1921 d. November 27, 2001 World War II Victorian Cross recipient. Royal Air Force pilot, recieved Britain's highest award for valor for completing a bombing mission over Germany in a crippled plane after he was severely wounded and his navigator killed. Citation: On 3 November 1943 on the way to Dusseldorf, Germany, Flight Lieutenant Reid's windscreen was shattered by fire from a Messerschmitt and the gun turrets and cockpit badly damaged.
