Tubman, William Vacanarat Shadrach b. November 29, 1895 d. July 23, 1971 President of Liberia. A descendant of American slaves, he was born in Harper to a prominent father who was a Methodist minister and House Speaker, Senator, and army General. Tubman completed high school and joined the army, soon obtaining a commission.
