Bonaparte III., Charles Louis Napoleon b. April 20, 1808 d. January 9, 1873 French Emporer. First president of the French Republic from 1848 to 1851 (during the Second Republic). Bonaparte, Eugene Louis John Joseph b. March 16, 1856 d. June 1, 1879 Prince Imperial. He was the only child of Napoleon III and his wife the Empress Eugenie. He served in the British Army as his family was in exile in England. He wanted to make a name for himself. He was in a scouting party in South Africa during the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879 that had dismounted.
