Davis, Gronow b. May 16, 1828 d. October 18, 1891 Crimean War Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Captain in the Royal Regiment of Artillery. On September 8, 1855, at Sebastopol Captain Davis commanded the spiking party in the attack on the Redan. During this action, he saved the life of an officer in the 39th Regiment by jumping over the parapet of a sap and going across the open, under murderous fire to help carry the wounded man to cover. Roy, Raja Ram Mohan b. 1774 d. September 27, 1833 Statesman, theologian, philosopher. He was born into a family of orthodox Kulin Brahmins of the Vashnavite sect. As a child he studied Persian, Arabic and Sanskrit in preparation for an intended career with the court service. Wood, Harry Blanshard b. June 21, 1882 d. August 15, 1924 World War I Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. Born in Pocklington, Yorkshire, he served as a Corporal in the 2nd Battalion, Scots Guards, British Army. At the village of St. Python, France, October 13, 1918, when opposed by German machine guns killed the platoon Sergeant, Corporal Wood took command of the platoon.
