Thornburgh d. September 27, 1888 Wonderdog of Fort Bridger. Some soldiers of Fort Bridger found a pup and named him for a Major Thornburgh who had been killed by Indians in 1879. Thornburgh distinguished himself on several occasions before he was fatally kicked by a mule belonging to "Buck" Buchanan, his inseparable companion. Among his feats, Thornburgh caught a commissary thief, warned a sentinel of marauding Indians, saved a soldier's life in a knife fight, and saved a young boy from drowning.
