In July 1923, she was a volunteer for the Berlin Jewish Peoples Homes vacation camp on the Baltic Sea when she met the writer Franz Kafka. After returning to Prague, Kafka moved to Berlin, and later to the sanatorium outside Vienna where he died in her arms on June 3, 1924.
