Maxwell, James Clerk b. June 13, 1831 d. November 5, 1879 Mathematical physicist, he is best remembered as the creator of the electromagnetic theory of light waves. He formulated a set of equations, expressing the basic laws of electricity and magnetism now called Maxwell equations in his honor.
