Radama I., King b. 1792 d. July 27, 1828 Madagascan Monarch. He was the eldest son of King Imboasalama Andrianampoinimerina, and his wife, Princess Rafotsirahisatra. He was named heir to the throne in May 1808 and became King of Madagascar following his father's death two years later. Radama I was best known for his Treaty of Friendship and Peace with Great Britain, that prohibited the export of slaves. Ranavalona III., Queen b. November 22, 1861 d. May 23, 1917 Madagascan Monarch. A native of Amparibe, Madagascar, she ruled Madagasgar from 1883 until 1897. She was the last reigning monarch of her country. She was forced into exile by the French following the First Franco-Malagasy War, and she died in Algeria in 1917. She was crowned Queen Consort of Madagascar on September 23, 1862. Ranavalona II served as the Queen of her country from 1863 until her death.
