Artigas, Gen. José Gervasio b. June 19, 1764 d. September 23, 1850 Military man and statesman. Born in Montevideo, Uruguay and died in Ibiray, Paraguay. Considered the maximum Uruguayan hero as well as the first Leader of the Orientals (Uruguayans).
