Gadamer, Hans-Georg b. February 11, 1900 d. March 13, 2002 Philosophist. He is best known for his contribution to hermeneutics through his most famous work, Truth and Method ("Wahrheit und Methode"). His philosophical system is a response to Dilthey, Husserl and Heidegger. Gadamer was born in Marburg, in there he was honored "extraordinary professor" in 1937. He served as a rector in Leipzig, and taught in Frankfurt am Main. In 1968 he became "professor emeritus" in Heidelberg.
