Gill, Peter b. September, 1831 d. October 24, 1858 Indian Mutiny Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in Dublin, Ireland, he served as a Sergeant Major in the Loodiana Regiment, Bengal Army. At Benares, India, on June 4, 1857, Sergeant Major Gill along with two others volunteered to rescue the Pension Paymaster Captain Brown and his family. At great risk, he went in the compound of the family's bungalow that was surrounded by rebels and succeeded in the rescue.
