Ireland, John Nicholson b. August 13, 1879 d. May 12, 1962 English composer. Born in Bowden, near Manchester, England into the family of literary people, Ireland entered the newly-established Royal College of Music in London at the age of thirteen. He lost both of his parents shortly afterwards, and had to make his own way as an orphaned teenager, studying piano, organ and composition.
