Crowe, Joseph Petrus Hendrik b. January 12, 1826 d. April 12, 1876 Indian Mutiny Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in Uitenhage, South Africa, he served as a Lieutenant in the 78th Highlanders, Regiment of Foot, British Army. On August 12, 1857, at the entrenched village in front of Busherutgunge, India, the redoubt was occupied by the enemy who were causing heavy casualties among the 18th Regiment of Foot.
