Brown, Peter b. 1837 d. September 10, 1894 Basuto War Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in Sweden, he served as a Trooper in the Cape Mounted Rifles, Colonial Forces. During the assault on Moirosi's Mountain, South Africa, on April 8, 1879, Trooper Brown spent all day carrying water to his wounded comrades who were lying under rocks where they had taken shelter. He did this within 200 yards of the enemy who were firing from redoubts up the sides of the mountain and he continued even though he was severely wounded.
