Bandaranaike, Sirimavo b. April 17, 1916 d. October 10, 2000 Sri Lanka Prime Minister. The first woman to serve as the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, she also was Leader of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party which her husband Solomon Bandaranaike founded. In all Bandaranaike served three terms as Prime Minister, 1960 to 1965, 1970 to 1977, and from 1994 to 2000. Bandaranaike, Solomon b. January 8, 1899 d. September 26, 1959 Ceylon Prime Minister. He served as the Prime Minister of Ceylon (later Sri Lanka), from 1956 to 1959. After studying to become a lawyer in England, he became involved in politics and helped to establish the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and the Sinhala Maha Sabha in 1937, a movement to promote Sinhalese culture and community interests.
