Buckley, Alexander Henry b. July 22, 1891 d. September 1, 1918 World War I Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in New South Wales, Australia, he served as a Corporal in the 54th Battalion, Australian Imperial Forces. On September 1, 1918, the 54th Battalion was ordered to take the ground between the River Somme and Péronne, France. Advancing toward the first trench line held by German machine guns, Corporal Buckley rushed the post, shooting four men and taking twenty-two prisoners.
