Kenyatta, Jomo b. September 20, 1889 d. June 22, 1978 First president of the Republic of Kenya. Born Kamau wa Ngengi to Kikiyu parents in Ichaweri, British East Africa (now Kenya). He became a political activist, then a politician and eventually the first president of The Republic of Kenya from 1964 to 1978. Died in Mombasa, Kenya of natural causes while on a business trip.
