McGee, Sgt. Lewis b. 1888 d. October 12, 1917 World War I Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in Ross, Tasmania, Australia, he served as a Sergeant in the 40th Battalion, Australian Imperial Forces. On October 12, 1917, during the Battle of Broodseinde, Belgium, Sergeant McGee's company was stopped by German machine gun fire from a concrete pill-box. He on his own, single handedly rushed the position armed only with a revolver, shot some of the crew and captured the rest.
